Microsoft have never released a version of Microsoft Money for any platform other than the Window platforms.

The official line on having a version of MSMoney for the Mac, or Linux or another operating system, is that Microsoft has no plans to do so. It is unlikely, at the present time, that they ever will.

Mac Systems

If you want to use Microsoft Money on a Mac, then you have a couple of options.

Virtual PC for the Mac is an option if you do NOT have an Intel-based Mac. If you do have an Intel-based Mac, then Parallels Desktop for Mac enables you to run Windows on a Mac, and would be another option.

If you wish to dual boot, then a solution would be to use Apple Boot Camp

I do not have a Mac machine, so both are untested by myself (although I have used Money under a Virtual PC on a PC based system). However, I've had reports that these both work.

Linux

The only software I currently am aware of is WINE for Linux, which would provide emulation of Windows, and thus allow Money to be run.

Thanks to 'AA' for providing information about Parallels, Apple Boot Camp and compatibility of Intel-based Macs
It should do. I have seen or tried all versions from Money 2000 to Money 2007 on Vista (32 bit), and these all appear to work. In addition I have had reports that Money 2002 runs correctly on the 64 bit version of Vista.

Below is a screenshot of Money 2000 on an early vista beta - click on it to see a larger image. My main machine, runs Vista Ultimate edition, and I use Microsoft Money 2006 and Money for the Pocket PC 2006, and I've not experienced any (major) issues. Just one with the framing of the window.

During the Vista beta, I did run into some issues when trying to open the sample.mny file from Money 2000 (in that it constantly wanted to compact the file), but a clean file appeared to work. There are probably some issues that are lurking out there, but the basic tests appeared okay.

It is useful to note that if you run Microsoft Money 2005, then it tries to install an update when you first start it up. If this doesn't install, then you should right click the Microsoft Money program off the Start Menu, and select the 'Run as administrator' option. This allows the update to install, after which, the program can be run normally (also described in FAQ Article 463).

Service pack 1 for Money 2007 (FAQ Article 444) was released to address some of the Vista issues with Money 2007 (but see also FAQ Article 448). Service pack 2 for Money 2007 (FAQ Article 458) was released in January 2007 to fix this.

There was also a bug with the download of OFX statements and Money 2005. This should have been fixed when the RTM version of Vista was released (FAQ Article 459).

Thanks to Anthony Brown for the information on MSMoney 2005
This is a placeholder page for tracking information relating to Microsoft (MS) Money 2008, should it be a product.

  • The beta is still running. Unfortunately I cannot give any details of the contents of it, due to the NDA (non-disclosure agreement). Not a lot else appears to be happening at present - I've not seen any retail information from big stores yet.4th July 2007
  • The Money 2008 beta has now started.9th June 2007
  • I've had a few questions about the beta, and really there is nothing yet to say as Microsoft are very quiet about it this year. Note that by this time last year (FAQ Article 242), the beta was running - so this would indicate that if there is a product, it is likely to come out later than last year (ie later than 21 July) or that there potentially might not be a product or beta. My money is on a late release (perhaps into September).9th May 2007
  • There is currently no news to report23rd April 2007

If you wish to apply to become a Microsoft Beta tester for Microsoft Money, or other Microsoft Beta products, then please see FAQ Article 225.

If you want to submit a wish for a future version of Microsoft Money (you're submitting for at earliest Microsoft Money 2009, maybe even Microsoft Money 2010 as you've will have missed any deadlines for Microsoft Money 2008), then see FAQ Article 10.

The current version of Microsoft Money is Microsoft Money 2007

Note that this page is only updated when there is some public information available. Information covered under NDA will not be added. All dates are 2007, unless otherwise specified.

The money.mvps.org website is down again today. It's been out of action now for a couple of hours.

Looks like it could be down a few more hours yet, so if you need articles in the meantime, you may need to go to the google cache (do a search on google, find the page on my website, and then press 'cached' to read it).

MY apologies. I've been trying to get things back up for the last two hours, but I don't think it can be fixed without intervention from the server administrators.

I possibly may have to start looking for some alternative hosting, but would prefer not, as i'll have to change the URL if I do :(

Update 10pm: seems like we're back in business. Let's hope so as I have an early flight in the morning and would prefer the site back up for the next 4 days before I come back
My Xbox360 is broken - three red lights of death appear on the console, and it is already at the repair centre. Hopefully things will be fixed because it has been great fun over the last year.

So, in the meantime, I decided to go through my 'to do' list for the Money site, and I came across one that was entitled 'Registry Fix for MS Money 2006 and MS Money for PocketPC 2006 in Windows Vista with Windows Mobile Device Center' - wow... long title name, but says exactly what it's about. I'd had it in my to do list for quite a while, but managed to get around to putting it online

This article was written by scottyfunshack@hotmail.com, who had fixed an issue using said programs (MS Money 2006, MS Money for POcket PC 2006, Windows Vista and Windows Mobile Device Center).

It also addresses some issues what some people have had with errors in ActiveDsk.dll (see FAQ Article 486.

As always, articles related to MS Money and its associated programs are always welcome. There is a contact link at the base of each of my FAQ site pages.
The following information was posted to the MSN Money Network Page recently, about an update coming in July 2007:

When: Mid July (expected around 19 July)

Effect:In mid-July, Money’s banking services will be updated. The update will affect customers who use Microsoft Money 2005, 2006, and 2007 and MSN Money My Accounts users. During the update, online services such as account balance updates and transaction downloads may not respond. After the update, you may need to set up your accounts again to regain access to online services.

To prepare, do the following:

  • Record the name and password for all accounts that need access to online services.
  • If you are using Money 2005, 2006 or 2007, create backup copies of all your Money files.
  • In Microsoft Money, on the File menu, click Back Up. Note: it is a good practice to save copies in multiple locations for added security.
  • Review the Microsoft Money Support Web site (http://support.microsoft.com/money) for additional information about backup, sign-in, and online services.

During the service update period you may not be able to sign into your Money file with full online access. You can access your Money file during the update by selecting the check box I want to sign into Money directly, without access to all online services on the Money sign-in page. This sign in issue will impact Money 2004 and older versions as well as the newer Money 2005, 2006 and 2007 versions.

Duration: The service update period may be a few days in duration.

The scheduled event will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
